Is there anything better than chips in the rain 
Seems funny to say but I feel no shame 
 
Drive out of town not so very far 
Just far enough that no one knows where you are 
Switch off the engine and listen 
See the droplets as they glisten

As life's worries all float away 
The silence is soothing only birdsong approving 
It's tragic that we cannot stay

If you have never done this I implore you to try it - on your own or with your partner at the end of a stressful day forget cooking just head to the local chippy grab some food and head out into the nearest piece of open space. The sensation for me is greatly improved if it is positively bucketing down with rain. Switch off the engine radio and mobile phone and just listen. Sarah and I used to love doing this on rainy days. The harder the rain the better. Take an hour to soak up this feeling of tranquillity before returning to the humdrum of modern life. Trust me you'll love it.
